The two armies meet at the Battle of St. Albans, and the Yorkists are victorious. Henry VI is captured, and Richard Plantagenet is declared Protector of England.

Act 4

In Act 4, Richard Plantagenet continues to consolidate his power. He has Henry VI imprisoned in the Tower of London, and he has his own son, Edward, crowned King of England. Margaret of Anjou escapes from England and goes to France to seek help from King Louis XI. She returns with a French army, and the two armies meet at the Battle of Wakefield. The Yorkists are defeated, and Richard Plantagenet is killed.

Act 5

In Act 5, Margaret of Anjou's army continues to march on London. She is joined by Warwick, the Earl of Warwick, who has turned against Richard Plantagenet. The two armies meet at the Battle of Towton, and the Lancastrians are defeated. Henry VI is captured, and Margaret of Anjou and her son flee to Scotland. The play ends with Edward IV being crowned King of England.
